Members of JEDCO’s board of directors, The Jasper – Lake Sam Rayburn Chamber of Commerce and interested citizens celebrated the completion of a new parking lot in downtown Jasper.
The lot, designed by McKinley-Golden Architects and built by Leland-Bradlee Construction, was funded by the 1/2 cent Sales Tax that JEDCO administers for the City of Jasper. The new lot on W. Houston Street is built on a site where old dilapidated buildings stood until recently. The board decided that the addition of more than 50 new parking spaces was needed to promote the anticipated re-development of the downtown area. Board president, Dan Walker, said “our board believes this additional parking will compliment the City’s South Main Street and Park projects and the construction of the new Provalus headquarters in downtown.” ”We want anyone thinking about a new location for their business to understand that our downtown just might be the perfect place for them,” he added.
In the near future, Jasper’s Master Gardeners Organization will be landscaping the new lot to making it aesthetically attractive as well as practical.
