Progress – Revitalizing Downtown Jasper

Jul 23, 2019 | News

Patience truly is a virtue, one that is showing signs of paying off regarding the planned revitalization of Jasper’s downtown. Real change can be seen on the on Phase One which entails a beautiful makeover of South Main Street from US 190 north to Water Street that will include the east side of that street as well. This is a joint project between JEDCO and the City of Jasper.

Another JEDCO project nearing completion is the new parking lot in downtown on West Houston Street. Jasper’s Master Gardeners will be adding the finishing touches by landscaping around the much-needed parking spaces where some vacant and dilapidated mid-century buildings previously stood.

Finally, Jasper United, the partnership between JEDCO and the City of Jasper, is close to choosing a building contractor to begin the restoration and expansion of the buildings on East Houston Street that will be the home of Provalus. This project is expected to be completed in early 2020.

With this visible change, local entrepreneurs and property owners alike are all getting excited about helping to get the next phase of the downtown project – around the square – started.
