Public Safety Career Day in Jasper

Nov 22, 2021 | News

A Public Safety Career Day Event was hosted by the Deep East Texas College and Career Academy (DETCCA) last Thursday, December 18.  Students from Jasper, Brookeland, Burkeville, Woodville, Spurger, Kirbyville and Newton participated.  DETCCA and Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) were on hand to answer students’ questions about all of the various programs and certifications offered by that partnership.

Representatives from all of the local Volunteer Fire Departments, as well as area law enforcement agencies and ambulance/EMT service providers were displaying their equipment and services. The students were able to observe, ask questions and learn from presentations, live demonstrations and, some hands-on experience from trying on firefighting equipment, operating Jaws of Life apparatus and actually extinguishing fires.

JISD Superintendent, John Seybold, said, “it was a wonderful day! From 4 years old to 18-year-olds all were very impressed and excited. Our plan is to make this an annual event to continue to promote  the public safety industry and community volunteerism to our youth.”

JEDCO is a proud supporter of DETCCA and all of our local public safety providers.
